Weinberger Waste Disposal

Glenn Weinberger built a successful business as a private landfill operator to handle construction debris. But his landfill space was rapidly diminishing, and if he didn't acquire a new facility, he would be virtually out of business.

With the help of the Authority, Glenn was able to finance the new Rainbow Valley Landfill. He says, "The Authority's advisors worked very hard to structure it in a way that was most beneficial to us, and yet satisfied the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. They clearly explained what the criteria were, and then worked with us for close to two years until we found a lender who would handle the project."

The Rainbow Valley Landfill is a $2.4 million facility that was completed by the Authority in June 1999. It primarily serves the booming construction industry, and allows private firms to obtain lower tipping fees than a traditional city landfill would charge.

Glenn says, "If I had tried to complete the financing in the conventional way, I could never have expanded, because the loan costs would have been too expensive. The Authority allowed me to maintain my business and expand into another landfill site, so I could continue to serve my customers."
